Toshiba enters wireless charging IC market

Leading Japanese semiconductor chip vendor Toshiba is collaborating with Hanrim Postec LLC (Hanrim) in the development of wireless power system ICs. Toshiba and Hanrim are working on ICs and systems based on the Qi standard low power spec for mobile devices, including smartphones and mobile phones, as proposed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).

Toshiba has developed and manufactured the ICs and Hanrim provides the module.

Toshiba has developed two products to the Qi standard, utilizing Hanrim's non-contact charging systems. Samples shipments will start from December.

The other vendors in this market include IDT, Texas Instruments, and the Taiwan based FU DA TONG.
