Renesas sales revenue falls by 8.3% q-o-q in its 3Q2011
The leading Japanese semiconductor chip maker Renesas Electronics has repored a net sales 222.9 Billion Yen (approx. 2.91 Billion US$) for the 3rd Quarter of its financial year ending December 31 2011, down by 8.3 percent (approx) compared to its sales revenue of 243.3 Billion Yen in 2nd Quarter of 2011. The revenue from semiconductor devices in 3rd Quarter of 2011 is 198.0 Billion YEN (approx. 2.585 Billion US$).
In the 1st quarter of 2011(quarter after the natural disaster in Japan) Renesas had reported a sales revenue of 207.2 Billion Yen.
Citing the reason of weak global market, Renesas revised its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012: net sales are expected to total 885.0 billion yen, 83.0 billion yen down from the previous forecast (announced on October 31, 2011); semiconductor sales are expected to total 778.0 billion yen, 83.0 billion yen down from the previous forecast.
Renesas expects the sales from three product areas, Microcontroller ICs, analog ICs and power semiconductor devices and system-on-Chip (SoC) ICs; to decline from the previous forecast.
Renesas Electronics also announced due to weak market in flat panel display it is withdrawing from the large-sized display driver IC business.
For those large-sized display driver ICs which have already started mass production, Renesas to discontinue its supply in consultation with existing customers using these drivers effective March 31, 2013. Renesas SP Drivers Inc., a consolidated subsidiary of Renesas Electronics, said tol continue to supply small- and mid-sized display diver ICs as in the past.
