Gartner's semiconductor market forecast for 2012 is less optimistic

Gartner has forecasted Worldwide semiconductor revenue is forecasted to reach $309 billion in 2012, a 2.2 percent increase from 2011. This outlook is down from Gartner's previous projection in the third quarter for 4.6 percent growth in 2012.

There is enough space for growth in semiconductor market in 2012 amid the weak economy. The emerging markets are playing increasing role in consumption of semiconductor devices compared to mature U.S., Europe and Japan markets.

For tablets, 2012 can be bigger year than 2011. The windows tablets is still not out, it can fuel faster growth. Industrial market is growing fast, automotive and medical are also not expected to slow down. The only area which may grow less is PC. But ultrabooks may review the market. The smart world need and smart chips.

There might be a price pressure on chip makers but the demand is not going to fall in 2012. And there are 28nm chips which are going to be sold at higher price for their perfomance. year 2011 has seen less 28nm compared to what is expected in year 2012.
