Non-Volatile DIMM memory can save the desktop computers from using UPS
AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. is presenting a paper titled "Hello Non-Volatile DIMMs - Goodbye UPS" at the 2011 Server Design Summit in Santa Clara, CA this week. The paper will look at the potential of Non-Volatile DIMMs (NVDIMMs) as an alternative to the ubiquitous Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS).
AgigA Tech is to showcase several live product demonstrations of its AGIGARAM non-volatile memory solutions at the conference. By combining DRAM, flash, an intelligent system controller and an ultracapacitor power source, the non-volatile memory product called AGIGARAM from AgigA can work like fast DRAM, and with the persistence of flash. Until recently, designers have reluctantly used batteries to maintain their data during power outages. Others have moved toward new flash-based technologies for memory persistence, but this option falls short of DRAM in terms of latency, speed, endurance and reliability, claims AgigA.
