Femtocells use increased 18% quarter-over-quarter, finds Infonetics
Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its second quarter (2Q11) 2G/3G/4G Femtocell Equipment market share, market size, and forecast report, which tracks femtocells for GSM/GPRS, CDMA, W-CDMA/HSPA, TD-SCDMA, and CDMA2000/EV-DO networks, and forecasts the market for 4G femtocells based on LTE.
"Although global femtocell revenue grew 40% from 2Q10 to 2Q11, indicating that the market is accelerating and has started to achieve some scale over the past 12 months, it is the potential future scale of the femtocell market that gives cause for excitement. The global adoption of mobile phones and explosion of data-driven mobile devices (namely tablets) suggests a growing role for femtocells in supporting coverage and capacity requirements. We anticipate that femtocells will gain mass-scale traction in 2012, at which point the year-over-year unit growth rate will jump to over 100%, and will stay at triple-digit levels in 2013," notes Richard Webb, directing analyst for microwave and small cells at Infonetics Research.
