The LCD panel shipments for tablet computers grown 28% M-o-M in May 2011

Displaybank has reported the Tablet PC LCD panel shipment showed sharp increase in May 2011 facing multiple new Tablet products launching. Displaybank forecasts the 8", 8.9", 9.7" and 10.1" sizes for Tablet PC LCD panels were on the rise that total Tablet PC panel shipment in May 2011 increased 28% M/M to 6.43M units.

According to Displaybank with the new products launch including Galaxy Tab 10.1 by Samsung Electronics, 10.1-inch panel shipments recorded 986K units, showing 37% M/M increase. As many Android Tablet PC products launched in a row, 8 and 8.9-inch panel production has begun and that 7-inch panel production was significantly decreased due to change in some of Tablet PC products' sizes such as Galaxy Tab, finds Displaybank.

Alex Kang, senior analyst at Displaybank noted "looking at the shipments by size, 5.38M 9.7-inch panels have shipped in May 2011 which increased 26% M/M with the continued popularity of iPad that any negative impact of Foxconn plant explosion in last May has not shown until now."

Kang added that "shipments of the total large-area panel market in May increased 8.1% M/M, shipping 63M units from Set makers' movements to secure panels in preparation for demand and price hikes in the second half of 2011 as well as the increase in Tablet PC and Notebook panel shipments. But in June, we expect this rising trend will slow down and will maintain similar shipment level as May."
