Tri-band, Wi-Fi and other chips from Qualcomm Atheros on display at Computex ,Taipei
Qualcomm Atheros Inc., and Wilocity have announced the AR9004TB, the tri-band Wi-Fi chipset operating in frequency ranges of 60 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The AR9004TB designed for applications where high bandwidth content need to be streamed to devices as well as networks.
"The new AR9004TB solution strengthens and expands our industry-leading portfolio of wireless and wired connectivity technologies for consumer and enterprise devices," said Amir Faintuch, senior vice president and general manager, consumer business unit, Qualcomm Atheros. "By incorporating 60 GHz multi-gigabit transfer with proven 802.11n Wi-Fi technologies, Qualcomm Atheros and Wilocity are creating an even more valuable offering for customers looking to expand their presence in the market. AR9004TB will allow users to enjoy new generations of rich applications in the home and at work while also helping keep their devices and information fully synchronized."
"As the promise of multi-gigabit wireless technology becomes reality, Wilocity is proud to take its place, with Qualcomm Atheros, at the head of the long line of future WiGig and draft 802.11ad products that will follow," said Mark Grodzinsky, vice president of marketing, Wilocity. "The AR9004TB solution is the first to offer multi-gigabit Wi-Fi and wireless bus extension, coupled with dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 for a truly wireless experience for a wide range of applications from I/O to networking to video. For the first time, the fastest way to access data from products that implement this groundbreaking technology will be wireless."
The AR9004TB is complaint with 802.11n and WiGig/802.11ad technologies. Consumers utilizing devices based on this technology will enjoy 802.11n Wi-Fi for whole home connectivity along with 802.11ad for networked synchronization of HD movies in seconds (versus tens of minutes), I/O connection to USB3/SATA hard drives, instant "sync and go" between mobile platforms, streaming display to projectors/TVs/monitors, and high-performance wireless docking.
The 60 GHz technology found in AR9004TB is based on the latest specifications from the Wireless Gigabit Alliance and IEEE 802.11ad and will be Wi-Fi Alliance certified. The AR9004TB also supports the latest Bluetooth 4.0 specification, which includes both high-speed and low-energy operation to extend personal area connectivity to a variety of devices.
Qualcomm Atheros and Wilocity is diplaying the AR9004TB tri-band Wi-Fi solution at COMPUTEX TAIPEI in Taiwan, going on now.
Qualcomm Atheros is also showcasing another Wi-Fi chip, the AR9374 at computex.
The features of AR9374 include:
1. It is a single-chip, dual-band 802.11n MIMO solution that utilizes both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.
2. The AR9374 offers wireless connectivity to fixed consumer electronic devices such as connected TVs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray players, digital media adapters, home network-attached-storage, speakers, game consoles and wireless audio products.
At COMPUTEX TAIPEI, Qualcomm Atheros will demonstrate the AR9374 solution with integrated efficient power amplifiers (EPAs) and low noise amplifiers (LNAs).
Additional Technology and Product Demonstrations by Qulcomm Atheros:
Qualcomm Atheros XSPAN solutions, which use the latest 802.11n and 5 GHz technologies to enhance multimedia connectivity in computers, TVs and routers
Qualcomm Atheros' new HomePlug Green PHY development kit, which offers ultra low-power, low-resource designs for smart grid/smart home product development
Qualcomm Atheros' Gigabit Ethernet solutions, which feature 802.3az energy efficient Ethernet, balancing performance and power for computing and networking
"The ongoing proliferation of connected devices within the home continues to drive tremendous momentum within the networking industry," said Dan Rabinovitsj, senior vice president and general manager, networking business unit, Qualcomm Atheros. "Qualcomm Atheros' expanding portfolio of solutions is playing a critical role in helping both device manufacturers and consumers take advantage of the technological advancements taking place in both wired and wireless networking and connectivity. Our commitment to continue driving the transition to 5 GHz Wi-Fi and next-generation powerline networking will help consumers realize the full potential of even more powerful devices, applications and experiences, whether with gaming, HD-video streaming or smart synchronization between devices."
