The semiconductor industry key centers in Asia
Asia is becoming bigger and bigger in its share of electronics and semiconductor market. The key electronics production regions where manufacturing is highly concentrated include Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and certain areas of China.
South Korea is home to world's second biggest semiconductor chip company Samsung. This region leads in DRAM and Flash memory chip production. South Korea also leads in LCD panel manufacturing. Japan and Taiwan compete closely with South Korean companies in these categories.
Taiwan houses world's top semiconductor foundry Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and also United Microelectronics Corp.
Taiwan's contributions to the global electronics supply as per IHS iSuppli include:
24% of total semiconductors, 37% of display drivers, 58% of small/medium-sized liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, and 34% of large-sized LCD panels
South Korea's contribution to global electronics production as per IHS iSuppli include:
59% of DRAM, 49% of data flash memory, 27% of display driver semiconductors, 51% percent of large-sized LCD panels, 18% of small/medium LCD panels
