Wilocity uses set of VLSI IPs from Synopsys for designing its wireless SoC

Synopsys has announced that Wilocity has used Synopsys' DesignWare IP to tape-out its multi-gigabit Wireless Gigabit Alliance-compliant system-on-chip (SoC). The DesignWare IP used in the SoC included PCI Express, embedded memories and logic libraries. Wilocity's SoC is based on the Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig) and IEEE802.11ad draft specifications, enabling multi-gigabit wireless for a wide range of applications, from I/O to networking to video.

Synopsys claims Wilocity was able to reduce power consumption in some of the more complex arithmetic clusters by approximately 50 percent, increase performance by 65 percent and improve utilization by up to 70 percent compared to their previous design executed with a competitive solution.

"As consumers demand greater mobility, device manufacturers are requiring advanced mobile computing platforms that enable them to deliver thin and light devices without sacrificing performance and functionality," said Ido Naishtein, director of physical design at Wilocity. "Wilocity's use of proven DesignWare IP and close collaboration with Synopsys Professional Services has enabled us to successfully produce multi-gigabit wireless chips that are optimized for today's mobile devices."

"Synopsys understands the importance of providing companies like Wilocity with high-quality IP as well as with expert design assistance to enable them to meet their design objectives and customer commitments," said John Koeter, vice president of marketing for the Solutions Group at Synopsys. "Wilocity's exceptional improvements in power, area and performance in its WiGig design are testaments to Synopsys' ability to provide comprehensive solutions of tools, IP and consulting that help our customers deliver differentiated products in the competitive mobile device market."
