Semiconductor market for IVI system to grow nearly 110% from 2010 to 2015
In-Stat has reported the semiconductor Total Available Market (TAM) for In Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems will grow nearly 110% between 2010 through 2015, with the largest opportunity residing with those companies supplying applications processors, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/GPS/FM combo chips and SDRAM. In-Stat finds the BOM of a typical IVI system costs US$75.78 in 2015.
The semiconductor suppliers for this market mentioned by In-Stat include Broadcom Corporation, Freescale Semiconductor, Intel Corporation, Marvell, Nvidia, and STMicroelectronics.
On the overall IVI market In-Stat has forecasted that over 35 million in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems are expected to ship in 2015. The car offering same level of entertainment that of living room is the driving factor for this market.
"In order to compete, the automotive industry must now keep pace with the innovation and scalability found in the consumer electronics industry," says Stephanie Ethier, Senior Analyst. "Along with a rich multimedia experience, today's drivers and passengers are also demanding constant connectivity in the car. The majority of automakers are embracing this demand for connectivity and forming strategic partnerships with technology and software companies to offer solutions that will enable consumers to access digital content in and out of the automobile via both wired and wireless options."
In-Stat says due to the wide consumer acceptance of smartphone apps, the smartphone will be the preliminary source of in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity.
Some of the IVI systems highlighted by In-Stat are Audi's Multi Media Interface, BMW's iDrive, Ford's SYNC, Kia's UVO, Nissan's Leaf connected by AT&T, and Toyota's Entune.
