Cavium's processors employed in multiple telecom equipments

Cavium Networks said its processors have already been chosen by 5 out of the top 5 telecom equipment makers and are widely adopted in 3G, WiMAX and LTE client and infrastructure equipment including client USB dongles, LTE Base Stations (eNodeBs) and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) devices, 3G Base stations, Cell Site Aggregators, Radio Network Controllers (RNC), Packet Data Serving Node (PDSN), xGSNs, Femtocells, Femto Gateways, WiMax base stations and ASN Gateways.

Advantech, Airspan, IXIA, Kontron, MontaVista, Picochip and Tata Elxsi, have demonstrated some of the many solutions that have been developed in conjunction with major customers based on OCTEON family of processors at Mobile tech related events, says Cavium.

Kontron and Tata Elxsi demonstrated a high performance wireless broadband solution.

AirSpan displayed AirSynergy, an all-in-one compact Pico Base Station which supports a wide range of radio interfaces including WiMAX and 4G LTE technologies.

Cavium has demonstrated end-to-end, small cell HD video streaming between two laptops communicating through LTE USB dongles powered by Cavium Networks' ODYSSEY 9000 family of 4G/LTE baseband DSP processors, to a Pico Base Station meeting 3GPP standards for Home eNodeB and Local Area eNodeB, fueled by Cavium's OCTEON multi-core processor and Picochip's picoArray processor.

Advantech displayed the Packetarium NCP-3120 and NCP-3105, ruggedized 1U rack mount appliances featuring the breakthrough 6-core OCTEON II CN6335 optimized for core and wireless network elements such as Radio Network Controllers and EPC.

MontaVista demonstrated their new Bare Metal Engine which allows packets to be forwarded 600% faster than in Linux.

Cavium Networks is partnering with Picochip in demonstrating femtocell LTE.
"Picochip is very pleased to work with Cavium Networks to showcase the first end-to-end LTE femtocell solution at Mobile World Congress," said Nigel Toon, CEO of Picochip. "If LTE is to deliver on its potential, then 'small cell' basestations are an essential part of the network: at Picochip we have pioneered this vision; we were the first to demonstrate an LTE femtocell and this year we are proud to show the first end-to-end IoT demonstration, and to announce the first LTE commercial contracts."

"Cavium is recognized as an industry leader with its OCTEON processor family, which is used by virtually all of the major infrastructure providers in the micro/macro cell market," said Will Strauss, President at Forward Concepts. "The new ODYSSEY family provides a unique programmable multi-protocol architecture that is well suited to femtocell deployments. This demonstration with Picochip showcases Cavium's silicon both on the infrastructure and the device side."
