What's on show at CES 2011
The world's most popular consumer electronics show CES at Las Vegas scheduled during Jan 6 to 9 is expected to trigger the pace of convergence of communication, computing and entertaining devices and the technologies for easy flow of content from one device to the other. This year some of the demonstrations include:
1. Tabets looks to steal much of the attention: New tablets from Toshiba, Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola are expected to take on Apple' iPad. No wonder if 100 million tablets are sold in 2011. The smart phone attraction at the show is Sony Ericsson's Android 2.3-based Xperia Arc. Tablet designs and products from Gemtek, FIC and Malata are also can be seen at CES.
2. WHDI and AMIMON will be demonstrating PC-to-TV products from ASUS, Brite-view and LG Innotek. The ASUS WAVI system enables consumers to view the entire content of their PC screen on the TV, and includes a virtual USB link for users to wirelessly control study room PC while in the living room. LG Innotek will showcase the Notebook-to-TV HD wireless Stick at the 2011 International CES show.
3. Last year the 3D TVs and tablets took up much space and attention, after one year 3D was found to be more hype rather than real value to the user. But the tablet has grown tremendously.
However 3D without glasses is somewhat welcome by the users. Toshiba said it will unveil prototypes of large-screen LCD TVs - in 65-inch and 56-inch models - that deliver full 3D without the need for dedicated glasses. Avaialability of more 3D content will give big push to 3D market.
4. Chipmaker ST to display set-top box, digital TV, digital audio and other consumer applications at CES. Another chipmaker Ralink said it will be showcasing chipsets tailored to the new generation of connected digital devices featuring Wi-Di capability to push content from PCs to TVs, the world's first PC-centric 1x1 802.11n Wi-Fi combined with Bluetooth 3.0+HS on a single chip.
5. Vivitek will display an HD projector with WHDI embedded. WHDI will demonstrate "over-the-air" switching capabilities utilizing a WHDI transmitter hub with multiple source devices connected to seamlessly and lag free switch from source device to another from the HDTV.
6. Panasonic's new cloud internet TV service, VIERA Connect and its compatible models are also on display at 2011 CES. Panasonic says this is the world's first cloud-based Internet service that supports interactive services using associable equipment as well as an Internet-based shopping function that supports purchases of such equipment straight from the television. Panasonic is also displayig new 32 and 37 inch IPS Alpha LCD panels with LED backlight based LCD TVs are now on display at CES.
