Standalone deep packet inspection market to reach $1.5 billion by 2014 says Infonetics

Market research firm Infonetics Research has released its updated Service Provider Deep Packet Inspection Products Market Outlook, a market share and forecast report that tracks standalone DPI solutions and vendors.

The highlights of the Infonetics study include:
Infonetics Research forecasts the standalone deep packet inspection (DPI) product market to grow more than 6-fold between 2009 and 2014, when it will hit $1.5 billion
Telecom operators turn to DPI for traffic shaping, advanced network security, regulatory compliance, targeted advertising, and value-added services, such as more sophisticated subscriber control capabilities
DPI also is increasingly being used to enable new business models, such as bundling applications with guaranteed QoS and granular content-based charging
Sandvine leads the worldwide standalone DPI product market, followed closely by Cisco

"While the net neutrality debate continues to dampen DPI investment in some markets, we are anticipating strong growth in emerging regions such as the Middle East and Asia. Operators in those markets are increasingly recognizing the value of DPI technology in better managing network congestion caused by rapid subscriber and application growth, as well as complying with regulatory requirements and addressing cyber security issues," notes Shira Levine, directing analyst for next gen OSS and policy at Infonetics Research.
