Sony develops new technique to enable faster response time in LCD displays

Sony has developed "Hybrid FPA (field-induced photo-reactive alignment)", a new liquid crystal alignment technique to reduce response times to less than 3ms. This will better the quality of pictures in 3D displays and also aid achieving production efficiencies, claims Sony.

In LCD technology-domain, noticeable small improvement in picture quality enables far higher sales of such TVs or any visual electronic equipments. Sony had that edge in picture tubes for long time and now it want to retain such technology edge in LCD displays.

Sony said it is jointly developing alignment layer materials with JSR Corporation for early commercialization of this technology. Hereafter, Sony plans to further accelerate its development of the technology with JSR's highly functional alignment layer materials and stable material quality.

With the 3D not really maturing either in technology and market, it leaves lot of scope for researchers in display technology to design new techniques to lead in the to-be-emerged 3D TV market.
