Phoenix demos its UEFI plug-in on UEFI reference BIOS for Intel boards

Phoenix Technologies has demonstrated the UEFI plug-in on the UEFI reference BIOS for the Intel 5 series-M chipset customer reference board. This particular plug-in demonstrates how OEMs and ODMs can work with mobile operators to enable subscription computing and/or securely anchor 3G-enabled notebooks to a particular operator network.

"BIOS plug-ins represent the next step in the evolution of core system software. With plug-ins, our OEM and ODM customers can differentiate their PC products and generate new revenue streams," said Tom Lacey, President and Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Technologies. "Our close partnership with Intel to develop UEFI plug-ins and our participation at Intel's premier event further demonstrates our commitment to restoring our focus on our core BIOS business. We look forward to providing a comprehensive demonstration of our scalable architecture as well as our complementary plug-in offerings and firmware tools at this industry leading event."

"Intel applauds Phoenix for their innovation and ability to address real problems with UEFI plug-ins," said Jeff Griffen, Director of Platform Software Infrastructure, Software and Services Group, Intel Corporation. "Phoenix has leveraged the extensibility and power of the UEFI architecture to craft novel solutions for the next generation of computing devices."
