Semiconductor revenue to drop by 11.4 percent in 2009: Gartner's reviewed estimates
After witnessing semiconductor sale revenue growth in 3rd quarter of 2009 exceeding the analyst expectations, technology market researcher Gartner has reviewed its semiconductor revenue estimates for 2009 and 2010.
Gartner stated, worldwide semiconductor revenue is on pace to total $226 billion in 2009, an 11.4 percent decline from 2008 revenue of $255 billion.
This forecast is better than the Gartner's previous forecast, where it has forecasted semiconductor revenue to decline by 17 percent in 2009.
In the beginning of this month, Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has forecasted total global semiconductor revenues in year 2009 to reach 219.7 billion, a drop of 11.6% compared to 2008 revenues of 248.6 billion; close to Gartner's forecast.
The increased revenues from processor, DRAM, flash memory and chips used in notebooks and netbook computers have helped semiconductor industry to save from deep fall in revenues in 2009.
In year 2010, Gartner estimates total semiconductor revenue to reach $255 billion, a 13 percent increase from 2009.
