Broadcom's STB and DTV SOCs supports RVU Alliance remote user interface tech

Broadcom's new set-top box (STB) and digital TV (DTV) system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions now support RVU Alliance's remote user interface (RUI) technology to deliver high quality content with a consistent user interface to RVU thin client devices throughout the connected home.

The RVU Alliance, with founding members Broadcom, Cisco, DIRECTV, Samsung and Verizon has developed a specification for 'pixel accurate' remote user interface technology that provides an identical user experience on all RVU thin client consumer electronics (CE) devices including STBs and DTVs enabled by Broadcom.

Henry Derovanessian, Chairman of the RVU Alliance Board of Directors said, "The RVU Alliance looks forward to Broadcom's real-world demonstration of RVU technology at CES 2010. We believe both consumers and service providers will embrace CE devices with RVU technology as they allow customers to enjoy service providers' entire entertainment experience throughout the connected home."

Dan Marotta, Senior Vice President & General Manager, Broadcom's Broadband Communications Group said, "We are excited to demonstrate the next generation connected home by deploying RVU's RUI technology across multiple Broadcom connected home platforms including TVs and set-top boxes. We are committed to enabling new ways for consumers to connect, share and enjoy information and entertainment content throughout the home for an enhanced and high quality digital entertainment experience."

Support of RVU technology is part of Broadcom's comprehensive SoC software reference platform that includes a DLNA client, CEA-2014 client, DTCP-IP and DVB. Both the Broadcom BCM7420 STB SoC (for set-top box manufacturers) and the Broadcom BCM3549 DTV SoC (for TV manufacturers) are in production and shipping to customers.
