Semiconductor revenue update: a bit of motivating figures
Here are the brief revenue figures of few of the well-known names in semiconductor industry.
ST Microelectronics 3rd quarter 2009 revenues up by 14% sequentially to $2,275 million and inventory reduced by $150 million in third quarter. ST's ICs are used in wide markets of security electronics, consumer electronics and industrial electronics and Automotive.
RF semiconductor device expert, TriQuint Semiconductor's revenue for the quarter ended September 26, 2009 was $173.0 million, up 2% sequentially. Triquint is into mobile phone and such RF communication equipment market. Not a great show quarterly but over six months TriQuint has gained a lot.
Ralph Quinsey, President and Chief Executive Officer, said "TriQuint revenue, in the last six months, is up 28% compared with the previous six months, demonstrating a strong rebound from the economic slowdown. Non-GAAP net income for Q3 2009 was up 37% sequentially and we finished the quarter with a solid cash position of $134.6 million dollars and no debt. Highlights for the quarter include the acquisition of TriAccess Technologies, a leading provider of cable and fiber-to-the-home devices, an agreement with Huawei Technologies to supply 'green' optical products and new DARPA funding for technology investment in very high frequency materials and applications."
Analog and discrete semiconductor device expert, Intersil's 3rd quarter 2009 revenues increased by14% to $168.3 from $147.3 million in the second quarter of 2009, but is a 23% decrease from $218.7 million in the third quarter of 2008.
Intersil's third quarter revenues share by end market were as follows:
High-end consumer electronics - 28% of revenues
Computing - 34% of revenues
Industrial- 19% of revenues
Communications- 19% of revenues
"The third quarter demonstrated the ongoing broad-based recovery within our computing, consumer and now industrial end markets," said Dave Bell, Intersil's President and Chief Executive Officer. "The third quarter exhibited normal seasonality, and we believe that the communications end market is now poised for recovery as well."
Texas Instruments reported third-quarter 2009 revenue increased by 17% to $2880 million from $2457 million in 2nd Quarter of 2009, but is still down by 15% compared to 3rd quarter 2008 revenues of $3387 million. TI reported a net income of $538 million and earnings per share (EPS) of $0.42.
"Our performance in the quarter exceeded our expectations and was led by a second consecutive quarter of 20-percent growth in Analog," said Rich Templeton, TI chairman, president and CEO. "Our balance sheet is strong and has allowed us to opportunistically make investments in Analog and Embedded Processing throughout this downturn that should provide returns for years to come. For example, we are increasing our investments in manufacturing capacity to support higher levels of growth, including start-up of the world's first facility to produce analog chips on 300-millimeter wafers. Applying advanced manufacturing technology to analog at an attractive cost will give TI an opportunity to accelerate our strategy and extend our leadership".
If the same trend continues in the 4th quarter of 2009, the total semiconductor revenue in 2009 can beat anlyst's pessimistic estimates.
