India is playing key role in WiMAX success

With so much skepticism over success of WiMAX technology, here are some recent developemnts in India which can bring lot of smiles over WiMAX technology promoters and users.

Tata communications, Bharath Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), and Reliance Communications are taking WiMAX business to next steps of growth by lobbying with Govt. of India to allow Voice over WiMAX. Government has finally nodded its head to allow VoWiMAX. With this technology people can have mobile IP phones, which work just like CDMA and GSM phones.

Intel, the key promoter of WiMAX has clearly set its eyes on India's market by partnering with WiMAX service provider companies to provide technologies what market demands.
Added to this, Intel has recently announced a new PC at a cost of Rs. 5000/- . The cheap PC and with connectivity support from BSNL can wire Indian villages and towns with highly affordable Internet and other IP based services (mainly voice).

The time is getting closer to decide which one of these technologies (GSM, CDMA, WiMAX) will win in the race to offer affordable communication to masses.
