Microsemi joins PoE technology consortium

Microsemi has announced that it has joined the PoE Technology Consortium (PoETec) of networking component, integrated circuit and systems companies serving the Power over Ethernet (PoE) market.

The PoE standards refers to standards where power is also fed by same bunch of cables carrying Ethernet data to end devices such as phones, security cameras and wireless LAN access points. It simplifies network installations, resulting in low cost, less downtime, easy maintenance and better installation flexibility. The PoETec consortium members aim to accelerate the design process for Power over Ethernet equipment by defining common interfaces that ensure interoperability and ease of use, thereby driving growth within the PoE marketplace.

"By joining PoETec we expand Microsemi's presence within the PoE channel, providing customers an additional design option to implement PoE switches and midspans with our PoE integrated circuits," said Daniel Feldman, Director of Marketing at Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "PoETec's integrated RJ45 PoE solution is perfect for customers looking for the highest integration."

Microsemi says, it offers 1-port, 4-port, 8-port, 16-port, 24-port and 48-port reference designs for daughterboard or onboard implementations of PoE switches and midspans using its IEEE802.3af and IEEE802.3at families. With its PoETec membership Microsemi adds 12-port and 8-port PoETec-compatible reference designs, based on the PD69012 and PD69008 IEEE802.3at PoE PSE Managers. The technology was pioneered by PowerDsine, a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af Task Force, prior to its acquisition by Microsemi. Microsemi has extended this technological leadership as a major contributor to the latest IEEE 802.3at standards for high power PoE.
