General Motors and Reva partnership to enhance Indian automotive electronics market
There are media reports saying General Motors (GM) India is partnering with Bangalore based Maini group's Reva Electric Car Co. to jointly develop electric driven Chevrolet spark cars for Indian market.
Partnerships such as these for an emerging market like India are likely to trigger chain of opportunities for automotive electronics companies in the fields such as embedded systems/software, semiconductor and other electric and electronic component suppliers.
Reva has pioneered in launching and sustaining an affordable and reliable electric car made exclusively for Indian market or such markets. Over the years it has moved from DC motor to AC Motor driven system and also included capability to support Lithium Ion batteries along with lead-acid batteries.
The electronics used in this car is simple and rugged. But with so many new semiconductor devices coming up in the market, this car provide an opportunity to its designers to provide lot more functionalities to its user by using better semiconductor chips and systems.
