Good news for embedded system designers with expertise in PSoC and ARM
In recent times Embedded System design engineers showing more interest towards Cypress Semiconductor's Programmable System on Chip (PsoC) devices. PSoC is gearing up to become another long living EE keyword. A good percentage of PSoC engineers are also experts and admirers of ARM processor architecture.
But many PSoC users were disappointed all these years for not availability of ARM core inside PSoC devices. Now they can look forward to work with ARM based PSoC devices.
Cypress Semiconductor has licensed ARM processor cores ARM9 and Cortex to use in their future PSoC devices. Cypress Semiconductor has also licensed more than 75 other IP elements from ARM.
Here are the comments from ARM and Cypress Semiconductor's executives:
"Our ongoing relationship with Cypress and their adoption of the ARM Cortex architecture is a highly visible demonstration of the growing momentum behind ARM Cortex processor-based solutions," said Eric Schorn, VP marketing, Processor Division, ARM. "The combination of the Cortex-M3 processor's ultra low-power, high-performance credentials with the flexibility of Cypress's embedded platform technology provides system designers with the ideal solution for a wide variety of applications, including, automotive and industrial control systems, white goods, electronic toys and medical instrumentation."
"This partnership with ARM expands the potential range of programmable solutions we can make available to customers with the twin benefits of high performance and industry-standard architectures," said Norm Taffe, executive vice president of Cypress's Consumer and Computation Division. "In addition, our customers now gain access to the broad ARM ecosystem of support around the processors."
In India, embedded system designers are keen to use ARM core integrated PSoC devices in their designs. Phani Kumar, Senior Staff Engineer at Motorola India says, "It's our long time desire to have ARM in PSoC, we also expect more peripherals available inside ARM based PSoC chip"
