Formation of world's 3rd largest semiconductor company is postponed till Sept 09

The negotiation delays have forced two leading semiconductor device vendors NEC Electronics and Renesas Technology to postpone the conclusion of a definitive agreement to integrate business operations until the end of September 2009.
The decision to merge was taken in the month of April 2009.

This merger ensures 3rd position in the world's semiconductor vendor ranking for the combined business. Also the combined business will get number one rank in some of the key segments of semiconductor devices, which include microcontroller.

The joint business of Renesas and NEC will overtake companies like Toshiba, Texas Instruments, ST Microelectronics Sony, Qualcomm, Hynix, and Infineon in semiconductor market ranking.
