Signs of semiconductor industry's recovery to slow growth is seen in 2nd quarter of 09
With the availability of reliable and good samples of semiconductor revenue announcement, it can analyzed and predicted the semiconductor industry is recovering to slow growth phase. Here below are such samples.
ST Microelectronics sales revenue in the 2nd quarter of 09 is 20% higher than 1st quarter 2009 revenues with growth seen automotive, STB and LCD TV semiconductor devices.
Texas Instruments increased its 2nd Quarter 2009 revenues by 18% compared to 1st quarter 09. Analog IC is the major contributor in TI's growth in revenues.
TSMC net sales for June 2009 were approximately NT$ 26.52 billion, an increase of 5.0 percent over May 2009
UMC has doubled its semiconductor wafer output in 2nd Quarter of 09 compared to 1st Quarter 09.
Another foundry SMIC has also doubled its shipment in 2nd Quarter of 09 compared to 1st Quarter 09.
Small size power IC vendor Volterra Semiconductor has posted net revenue of $22.8 million for the second quarter of 2009, a 25% increase compared with net revenue of $18.3 million for the first quarter of 2009
There are very short negative blips also; Freescale semiconductor net sales down by 1.9% to $824 million $824 million for the second quarter of 2009, compared to $840 million in the first quarter of 2009. The fall is attributed to sell off its cellphone semiconductor business and weak sales in automotive sector.
ARM has also reported fall in sales revenue, but ARM is an IP company it doesn't sell devices.
Though currently growth is seen, semiconductor industry is yet to recover to 2nd Q 2008 positions. If the growth continues into 3rd and 4th quarter of 2009, there are chances that the full year 2009 revenues might equal the full year 2008 revenues.
Another negative point is, most of the company's have reported losses.
