Broadcom broadening the use of Bluetooth

Wide bandwidth wireless transceiver specialist Broadcom's chips are enabling entertainment content from TV and mobile handhelds to hop across each other.
Sitting in front of a TV with nice pictures collected just a while ago and would like to watch them on the digital TVs at the click of a button or would like listen the TV audio on mobile Bluetooth headphones, Broadcom chips are enabling this features in LG digital TVs. This is no big deal now; there are many ways to do it now. But most of the technologies work through intermediary device and memory storage called media-servers.

The Broadcom's Bluetooth powered chips inside LG digital TVs allow existing Bluetooth devices receive and send media to Televisions. Interestingly part is this technology from Broadcom can enable the cell phone as a TV remote control or a QWERTY keyboard input device for TV-based widgets and electronics commerce applications.

The media rich phone can push the fresh content into TV system for viewing and sharing. Pictures and songs from Cell Phones can be directly transferred to the TV and streaming audio from the TV to stereo wireless headphones is also possible.

"Consumers are continuing to discover that Bluetooth is much more than just a wireless headset, with the technology rapidly gaining adoption in digital televisions," said Fernanda Summa, TV Product Manager, LG Electronics. "Broadcom Bluetooth technology provides the right combination of features and performance for embedded and consumer electronics applications, delivering advanced multimedia capabilities and low power consumption driven by Broadcom's expertise in mobile handsets."

"The increasing adoption of Broadcom Bluetooth technology into digital televisions and other consumer electronics devices is driving an emerging connectivity ecosystem, allowing existing products with Bluetooth connectivity like cell phones and wireless headsets to play new roles," said Craig Ochikubo, Vice President & General Manager of Broadcom's Wireless Personal Area Networking line of business. "Broadcom is helping to drive this trend and we look forward to our continued collaboration with LGE to transform consumer interaction with these devices."

Television is no more a plain TV it can be a mini-PC (static version of netbook), media player and as well doing the main purpose of television, symbolizing the clear emergence of convergence systems.
