EDA industry revenues down in 1Q09 in all areas except Asia-Pacific
Weak semiconductor market is forcing VLSI design companies to cut EDA-tool shopping budget with only exception of Asia-Pacific (Japan not included). The recent report from EDA Consortium (EDAC) says EDA industry revenue for 1st quarter 2009 declined 10.7% to $1192.1 million, compared to $1334.2 million in1st quarter of 2008. The four-quarter moving average declined by 11.3%.
"The business environment remained difficult for EDA as for other industries, with Q1 EDA revenues declining in all regions except Asia Pacific," said Walden C. Rhines, EDA Consortium chair and Mentor Graphics CEO and chairman. "Nevertheless, for Q1, the overall decline was less than for the previous quarter."
The staff strength of EDA companies has also dropped by 2.8% to 26,561 employees in 1st Quarter 09 from 27,329 in 1st Quarter 08 and down by 2.7% from 27,311 in 4th Quarter 2008.
