Insulin delivering MEMS based technology breakthrough from ST and Debiotech

ST Microelectronics in joint effort with Debiotech has achieved significant technology -breakthrough in developing wearable insulin nano pump system for diabetic patients. It's perfect achievement in commercializing MEMS based technology for improving the life of human being. It's like an artificial Pancreas just delivering nano liters of insulin to the patient's body, relieving him from the ordeal of injecting or taking oral pills of impulsive insulin doses. This small machine can look after itself for any over flow or under flow of insulin to the body and also for any malfunctions like air bubbles.
Debiotech is a Swiss company with expertise in building nano meter sized electro mechanical systems. Debiotech along with ST Micro, the leading manufacturer and researcher of MEMS and advanced semiconductor devices have planed to release this product in 2008. Not a long period to wait for Diabetic patients for this technology.

Semiconductor along with MEMS will play very dominant role in future not only in diagnosing and also in treatment and in monitoring the treatment. Lot more work is required to be done in this area to reduce the cost of these devices for faster reach of these products to ordinary class of people.
