Media processor SMP8654 from Sigma Designs is used in STBs from Celrun

South Korean based Celrun is employing SMP8654 media processors from Sigma Designs in its IPTV set-top boxes(STBs) which will be deployed in Korean market by telecom service provider LG Dacom.

Celrun's TD-1100 set-top box features support for real-time IPTV video streaming and also offer Video-on-Demand (VOD) services.

"Our selection by LG Dacom to be deployed across Korea was largely due to Sigma's next-generation system-on-chip, SMP8654, as LG Dacom demanded set-top boxes that are robust and offer technology advanced enough to scale for all IPTV customers in Korea," said Young Min Kim, CEO at Celrun. After US and Europe, Asia is becoming the next big market for all kind of set top boxes which includes DTH and IPTV . Whatever is the type of set top box, media processor is key device in these systems. The market for set top box and for the media processor used in STBs is directly impacted by the number of homes migrating from digital broadcast to analog broadcast. The population size matters here. China and India leads the rest in Asia continent.
