India semiconductor policy is officially announced
The India's much awaited semiconductor policy is officially notified by the communication and IT minister Dayanidhi Maran. It's expected at least 2 to 3 latest semiconductor fabrication facilities will be installed in the country. The total investment is to exceed 5 billion USD. Intel is on the top of the list to get a proposal to invest in India. Mr. Maran has said, he will start talking with Craig Barrett to negotiate to invest.
The incentives offered are,
20 % capital expenditure subsidy during first 10 years if unit is inside Special Economic Zone (SEZ), and 25% if outside an SEZ
The minimum investment is 2500 crore Rupees for a Integrated Circuit fabrication plant and 1000 crore Rupees for an ancillary plant.
Government can have maximum stake of 26%.
There are also tax concessions, interest subsidies plus state government offered incentives
Second hand equipments are barred from all these SOPs
Along with ICs, the incentives will also cover manufacturing of LCD, plasmas, storage devices, solar photo voltaic cells, MEMS and other nanotech products. The assembly and testing facilities of these products also provided with these incentives.
