Royal Netherlands Navy commissions Rohde & Schwarz to deliver communications systems

The Defense Materiel Organization (DMO) of the Dutch Ministry of Defense (MoD) has signed a contract with Rohde & Schwarz to deliver four integrated internal and external communications systems for the new patrol vessels of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Each system consists of an integrated radio intercom system (IRIS), a modem and crypto subsystem, an MF/HF transmitter and receiver system as well as a VHF/UHF transmitter and receiver system. They fulfill an important task within the sensor weapon and commando (SEWACO) system of the patrol vessels.

The integrated internal/external communications system controls all communications of the patrol ship. With the use of voice terminals, internal and external communications lines can be set up. Among its various capabilities, the modem and crypto system can code and decode data as well as transmit and receive fax messages. The crypto equipment will be delivered by the defense organization. Rohde & Schwarz will fulfill all requirements to deploy the equipment. The MF/HF transmitter and receiver system makes long-distance communications possible with headquarters, helicopters, airplanes or other ships. The line-of-site (LOS) VHF/UHF transmitter and receiver system enables secure voice and data communications with other units using the 100 MHz to 400 MHz frequency range.
