Webcast on electric motor evolution

Fairchild Semiconductor's webcast on motor evolution covers various stages of motor development from its invention to latest trends.
Its no exaggeration to say, today's modern life will comes to standstill without electric motor, We human beings need some motorized equipment at every hour of our life, from simple cooling fans to refrigerators to automotive starters all run by an electric motor.
With more than half of the world's energy consumed in driving motors, motor control is a prime application for energy-efficiency improvements. Through electronic control of speed and other electro-mechanical parameters the saving of power can be significantly achieved.
The webcast discusses the need for electronic controls for motors, including power factor correction (PFC), energy-efficiency improvements and precision control of speed, torque and power.

The approximately 15 minute webcast examines the evolution of motors - from Faraday's initial demonstration of the basic foundation of the electric motor through today's developments in motor technology. The discussion includes the most common types of motors - Brush DC Motors, AC Induction Motors, Brushless DC Motors and Switched Reluctance Motors.
