RMI selects SiGe Semi and CSR as alliance partners for its GPS application solution

RMI Corporation as added CSR and SiGe Semiconductor to its list of partner alliance members. This trio partnership will work to deliver a low cost GPS implementation in RMI's recently announced mPND reference solution for this emerging market.

RMI's mPND reference design is based on RMI's Alchemy Au1250 and Au1210 media processors can speed up and simplify design of portable media products. Alchemy processors, which are shipping in volumes enable playback of video at full-frame-rate speeds and deliver DVD-quality video and dynamic audio without the need to transcode.

RMI says, mPND reference design can assist in developing low cost alternatives to replace expensive GPS modules. The Au1250 media processor with enough processing power can execute complex baseband function in software and eliminates any external hardware requirement.

RMI selected the E5000 software solution from CSR. E5000 application implements baseband function in software. The CSR implementation enables the low cost GPS design by elimination of hardware GPS logic and leverages the processing capability of the RMI Alchemy processor.

SiGe Semiconductor provides the GPS RF Devices to accompany the Au1250 processor in the software GPS implementation.

The SE4120 receiver is the device from SiGe used in this RMI's product. The SiGe SE4120 receiver IC integrates a low-noise amplifier (LNA), a low IF receiver, linear automatic gain control (AGC), IF filter, image reject mixer, and an advanced multi-bit I/Q analog to digital converter (ADC). The SE4120 receiver provides serialized data output to facilitate software signal processing.
