Microsemi acquires POE (Power over Ethernet) expert PowerDsine

Discrete and power semiconductor expert Microsemi is acquiring PowerDsine Ltd, a maker of ICs, modules, and systems for Power over Ethernet (POE) applications. Microsemi now with the expertise of PowerDsine will have strong hold in this growing market of POE. POE is a new concept, where power source is also transmitted along with the ethernet cable. Distributing power along with ethernet helps telecom terminal equipments such as ethernet enabled remote devices to work free of batteries and any power sources.

Microsemi will continue to support PowerDsine's product roadmaps for both the midspan and integrated product lines.
