Lattice gains stronghold in power management chip market

Lattice Semiconductor Corporation has announced it has shipped more than 15 million Power Manager devices. Lattice power mgmt chips are designed to save multiple precision voltage references that are required in discrete designs.

"The Lattice POWR607 device has the widest use in our systems' localized power management due to its low cost and high functionality value," said Alon Michaeli, Director of Engineering at MRV Communications. "We selected these devices because of their ability to integrate multiple types of analog and digital functions while reducing the BOM and therefore the overall cost of the system. Programmability allows our designers to reduce time to market, successfully replicating standard functions such as supply monitoring, hot-swap circuits and reset distribution and to complete the design at a later stage by on-board adjustment of the device's parameters."

According to Lattice, it offers customers an "All-in-One" power management solution, the Power Manager integrates precision voltage supervisors, sequencers, watchdog timers, hot-swap controllers, voltage measurement, regulator trim/margining, I2C interface and reset generators while reducing implementation cost by up to 30%.

"Our customers are discovering that they can customize their power management circuits for their individual requirements," said Shakeel Peera, Lattice's Director of Marketing, Silicon & Solutions. "No longer do they need to settle for discrete power management designs that only marginally meet their requirements and can compromise the board's reliability. Power Manager shipments have accelerated dramatically in a variety of end markets, including communications, consumer, computing, industrial and medical, making the Power Manager devices among Lattice's fastest growing products."
