New Solution Enables Amazon Sidewalk Geolocation Capabilities

Murata introduced the Type 2HZ solution with enhanced geolocation capabilities for Amazon Sidewalk, a secure, free-to-connect, long-range, and low-power shared community network designed to provide connectivity for billions of devices. With this module, developers can leverage an extended range for low-bandwidth applications to connect both outdoor and indoor products. In addition, geolocation can be realized with Global Navigation Satellite System scanning and Wi-Fi passive scanning for outdoor and indoor products, respectively. It also provides limited functionality even when other devices become offline.

Measuring just 9.98 x 13.1 x 1.74mm, the Type 2HZ is vastly smaller than competitors’ solutions and delivers improved RF performance. It is powered by the latest Semtech LR1110 transceiver IC and Silabs’ powerful EFR32BG24 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) System On Chip. Additionally, it comes standard with 1.5MB flash and 256KB RAM. Specific applications include pet tracking, curbside delivery, logistics tracking, delivery robots, smart trash cans, and monitoring functions for plants, trees, water, air conditioning, and remote doors and locks.

The Type 2HZ module will be available for select customers initially and through distributors as the product goes into mass production. More information on the solution, including specifications, evaluation tools, and purchase information, can be found by contacting the Murata team here. The solution will also be featured at CES 2024 (West Hall Booth #6300) happening January 9-12.
