10GBASE-T phy chip measuring 23mmx 23mm offers size advantage
Broadcom has made available of 23mmx23mm size quad 10GBASE-T physical layer transceiver (PHY). Broadcom leverages 40nm node to make this 10GBASE-T PHY which consumes lower power as well as small in footprint for use in designing 10GBASE-T Top-of-Rack switch platforms.
BCM84848 PHY is designed as a companion device to Broadcom's StrataXGS Trident Switch Series supports Top-of-Rack switches with 48 ports of 10GBASE-T and four 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) QSFP uplinks .
Broadcom says this chip ensures forward compatibility to next-generation 28nm process eliminating the need to redesign the board when moving to the next node.
Availability: The BCM84848 PHY is now sampling with production volume slated for the first quarter of 2013.
