16-channel constant-I full colour LED display driver IC from Holtek

Holtek has announced new 16-channel constant current full colour LED display driver IC, the HT16D724. The HT16D724 is equipped with a 3~45mA constant current drive capability whose output current can be setup to different values using external resistors to achieve the required colour LED white balance. With an output current accuracy between channels of ±2.5%, the device is capable of providing constant LED display illumination levels even when the LED forward voltages are different. HT16D724 feature output response speed of 70ns to support high grey scale and high refresh rate requirements of full colour LED displays.

An additional feature is its internal CMOS shift register and latch function which can convert the serial input data to a parallel output data format. If the VDS value of the HT16D724 is greater than 0.6V, the output currents will still be maintained at a constant value of 25mA. When the VLED voltage is 4V, in addition to reducing the device power consumption and device temperature, the LED display power consumption can be reduced by 20%. The outputs can withstand voltages of up to 17V and features clock frequency rate of 25MHz.

The HT16D724 is provided in a 24-pin SSOP package, with target applications such as indoor/outdoor full colour LED displays such as found in advertisement screens, traffic information screens, television screens, etc.
