Intersil unveils robust ORing FET controller for redundant power
Intersil Corporation has announced a compact ORing FET controller that offers power redundancy and protection with least power dissipation.
The new ISL6146 works with N-channel power MOSFETs to enhance power distribution efficiency when replacing a power ORing diode in high current applications. It can be used to offer an N+1 ORing power supply function, along with complete fault reporting for intelligent monitoring.
The ISL6146 offers reverse current fault isolation with a 6A turn-off current, delivering fast response to preempt potential damage to upstream components in cases of power loss. This small solution requires a minimum number of external components for power supply systems in infrastructure equipment applications.
Features:
1. 3V to 20V bias and 1V to 20V operating voltage
2. ISL6146A and ISL6146B are optimized for very low voltage operation, down to 1V
3. Hot-swap transient rated to 24V
4. Five options for various applications
5. Measures 3 x 3 mm in 8-pin MSOP and DFN packages.
The device is available now and is priced at $1.20 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
