16M/64M Non-volatile MRAMs from Aeroflex in flatpack package

Aeroflex Incorporated (Aeroflex), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aeroflex Holding Corp. has announced the addition of non-volatile MRAMs (magnetic random access memory) to their off-the-shelf memory family. The UT8MR2M8 is a 16Mbit device provided in a 40-pin flatpack and the UT8MR8M8 is a 64Mbit device available in a 64-pin flatpack.

MRAM technology offers a combination of fast access time, non-volatility, data retention and endurance. MRAM technology works as an SRAM with non-volatile attributes. Aeroflex’s HiRel MRAM solutions to be used with microprocessors, DSP engines, storage systems, instruments, and reconfigurable FPGAs that require guaranteed total ionizing dose and single event hardness.

The 3V MRAMs operates from -40 Deg Cel to +105 Deg Cel, 100 krads(Si) and are SEL immune to >100 MeV-cm2. These MRAMs can replace 3.3V SRAMs. They are 8-bit parallel I/O solutions with data retention after each write of 20 years and near infinite read/write endurance. They are suitable for working memory applications that need high rates of data overwrites.

“Using an IP license from Everspin Technology, Aeroflex has taken commercial MRAM technology and modified it for the specialized aerospace and defense markets in less than two years,” said Anthony Jordan, Director-Standard Products, Aeroflex Colorado Springs. “Customers need dense, low power, qualified nonvolatile memory solutions. Aeroflex plans to serve this need going forward using MRAM technology.”

“Aeroflex MRAMs will be QML Q and we are striving for QML V qualification. We are committed as a longterm supplier of memory products for harsh environments,” said Jordan.

The devices are to be QML Q/V qualified and available to Standard Microcircuit Drawings. The prototypes of UT8MR8M8 and UT8MR2M8 are available now and the production quantities are available in 2Q 2013 and 3Q 2013 respectively.
