Development platform supports Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor for Android

BSQUARE Corporation has announced general availability of a DragonBoard development platform for Android, which is intended to help development and testing by device makers, application developers and other hardware and software ecosystem suppliers, who are working with devices that run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor.

The DragonBoard development platform is a development board that provides exposed connectors, adapters and expansion headers. These features offer deep levels of development, testing and expansion within a flexible development environment that permit:
1. OEMs to do early prototyping of certain Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor-based devices
2. Component suppliers to integrate their components with Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor-based devices and
3. Android application developers to create applications for the open source development community.

“We launched the Snapdragon S3 APQ8060 processor-based DragonBoard development platform last September, and it’s exciting to now offer a similarly powerful, open board in this new DragonBoard development platform that is well suited for China and potentially other high-volume regions which are currently deploying devices that run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor,” said John Traynor, vice president of products for Bsquare. “Bsquare has local resources in China and we are excited for the opportunity this product gives us to not only continue our relationship with Qualcomm, but to also provide local OEMs, component suppliers and application developers in China, who are working with devices that are based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor, with high-quality products and professional services.”

“This latest DragonBoard development platform allows developers to more easily create early application and device prototypes for devices based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S1 MSM7x27A processor,” said Tia Cassett, senior director of business development for Qualcomm. “We are pleased to once again work with Bsquare to provide flexible solutions that help developers’ capture a time-to-market advantage.”

The platform is available for purchase and is shipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 processor, a sensor daughter card and a connectivity daughter card, 480x800 display/touchscreen, 1MP/5MP camera, battery and earphone.
