Vishay launches panel potentiometer with variable resistor and switch in built-in knob

Vishay Intertechnology Inc has announced a new panel potentiometer P16S that includes a variable resistor and switch incorporated into a built-in knob. The P16S potentiometer is designed for military, professional audio, and industrial applications that require volume, speed, intensity, and voltage controls in a compact design such as portable equipment, communication headsets, night-vision goggles, and cockpit panels.

Vishay Sfernice potentiometer featuring a fully sealed and panel-sealed construction is a revolutionary concept in panel mounted potentiometers, claims Vishay. Its design consists of a knob driving that incorporates a cermet or conductive plastic potentiometer. Only the mounting hardware and terminals are situated on the back side of the panel, which keeps the required clearance to a minimum and makes it suitable for small, low-profile, low-weight equipment.

Features:
1. Power rating to 1 W at + 40 °C
2. TCR of ± 150 ppm/°C typical
3. Dielectric strength of 2.5 kVrms
4. Temperature range of - 40 °C to + 125 °C
5. RoHS compliant and lead (Pb)-free
6. Available in 7 mm bushing length (15 mm inside equipment) with a 16 mm knob diameter

A version of the new potentiometer with a conductive plastic element for audio applications, the P16S, is also available.

Availability:
The samples of the new potentiometers are available now.
Production quantities of the P16S NM with metal knob are available in June 2012.
Production quantities of the P16S NP with plastic knob are available now.
Lead times are 8 to 10 weeks for larger orders.
