Chunghwa telecom uses Sigma Designs' chipset to enable IPTV home services across Taiwan

Sigma Designs has announced its next generation CG2210 HomePlug AV solution for delivering IPTV services in consumer homes. Sigma Designs has said that this solution will be used by Taiwan's service provider Chunghwa Telecom. The introduction of Sigma's HomePlug AV solution by Chunghwa represents Sigma Designs' first power line deployment into the Taiwanese consumer IPTV market.

Comtrend provides a CG2210-based wall mount adapter that plugs into the electrical outlets inside the home and delivers HD quality video across electrical wiring. The Comtrend PG-9141 HomePlug AV power line adapters passed the acceptance tests and met Chunghwa's set of technical requirements.

The CG2210 features:
1. Low power consumption
2. Quality of Service (QoS) configuration allowing data stream prioritization for specific applications
3. LED indicators to display system status and to enable simple installation
4. Optimized software API to enable quick customization and product differentiation
5. On-chip support for TR-069 for remote configuration and monitoring

"Sigma Designs is an important partner for us," said Steven Tsang, Comtrend's vice president of international sales. "Their CG2210 chipset is the most technically superior solution on the market. For the IPTV solution that Chunghwa Telecom needed, it was an obvious choice."
