ICsense releases asynchronous DC-DC converter and driver for automotive Xenon HID lamps

ICsense has developed an asynchronous DC-DC converter and driver for Xenon high intensity discharge (HID) lamps. The application specific integrated circuit (ASIC) generates the required voltages for ignition, startup and normal operation of the lamps.

The device includes the igniter, H-bridge and the H-bridge driver, which operates the lamp in AC for higher durability. PWM power control up to 35W is generated by the power regulation loop to the lamp. The ASIC measure the current and voltage of the lamp and generates the power errors signal for the DC-DC converter.

Features:
1. Drive and control the ballast for a XENON HID head lamp from a 12V battery
2. Protections: over/under voltage, over current
3. Reference current generator, 3.3V and 9V generator, bandgap, oscillator, POR
4. EMC simulations (DPI)
5. Maximum power supply: 36V
6. 0.35um CMOS 50V technology
7. Junction temperature: -40°C to 150°C
