New evaluation system for AGIGARAM DDR3 Non-Volatile DIMM unveiled
AgigA Tech Inc., a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp. has introduced a new evaluation system for its AGIGARAM DDR3 Non-Volatile DIMM (NVDIMM) solutions, which integrates its second-generation DDR3 NVDIMM solutions into the standard DIMM sockets on an industry standard server platform. AgigA Tech also provides a Linux driver to reliably manage the system operation of preserving and restoring the contents of DRAM in the event of a power failure.
The new evaluation system is intended for developers of enterprise-class storage and server applications who are looking to take advantage of a persistent memory architecture that has the ultra-low latency of DRAM. Application usage may include write caching for RAID, hash look-up and coherency, database and translation layer management, fast transactional IO in a tiered storage architecture, or even whole system persistence.
AgigA Tech will be showcasing the new evaluation system and more at the upcoming Flash Memory Summit at the Santa Clara Convention Center from August 9 to 11 in booth #213.
AgigA Tech explains that AGIGARAM is a new class of non-volatile memory developed to meet the need for higher-density, higher-performance memory for enterprise-class storage and server applications. By combining DRAM, Flash, an intelligent system controller and an ultracapacitor power source, AGIGARAM provides a memory subsystem that runs with the latency and endurance of the fastest DRAM, but with the persistence of Flash. Until recently, designers have reluctantly used batteries to maintain their data during power outages. Others have moved toward new flash-based technologies for memory persistence, but this option falls short of DRAM in terms of latency, speed, endurance and reliability. AGIGARAM enables the fastest possible system performance while also eliminating the many headaches associated with batteries, such as hazardous material disposal, short operating life and extensive maintenance, says AgigA Tech.
"We've taken our second-generation DDR3 AGIGARAM NVDIMM solutions and integrated them into an industry standard server platform," said Ron Sartore, CEO of AgigA Tech. "This new evaluation system provides a simple platform for developers to evaluate how our AGIGARAM technology can improve the performance, cost and reliability of their end products."
Availability: The AGIGA0006-000AXX Evaluation System will be available to select development partners later this quarter. Pricing is dependent on the system configuration, and is available upon request.
