Audio subsystem IC from IDT packs clock generator

Integrated Device Technology Inc (IDT) has announced the ACS42200, a audio subsystem with integrated programmable clock generator for portable applications. ACS42200 family includes a low-power, high-fidelity codec targeted at portable applications such as tablet computers, portable games, personal navigation devices, portable projectors and speaker dock and also integrates four programmable system PLLs for internal and external timing, a DDX class-D speaker amplifier, a true cap-less headphone amplifier, and advanced built-in audio processing capability for 3D, bass and treble enhancement.

"The integration of our ultra-efficient DDX technology and industry-leading timing IP is a perfect example of how IDT brings the analog and digital worlds together to create value," said Patrick Griffith, senior director of marketing for the Analog and Power Division at IDT. "The integrated programmable PLLs and high-efficiency, high-fidelity audio solve several challenges at once, making the end-product better, smaller, cheaper, and in the consumer's hands sooner. The ACS42200 extends IDT's computing audio portfolio, well-positioning IDT to support the transition from notebooks to tablets."

IDT explains that four integrated programmable system PLLs are unique to it's codec solution and enable the timing management of a system's applications processor, USB interface, secondary audio and other subsystems, which allows system designers to eliminate large, costly crystals and oscillators that can often cause procurement delays, while the integrated spread spectrum capability can eliminate EMI concerns. Along with this, IDT's patented DDX class-D technology offers higher efficiency, consuming less power than traditional binary class-D solutions and this results in a improvement in battery life - a critical demand of next generation portable consumer electronics, claims IDT.

Pricing and Availability:
The IDT ACS42200 family is currently sampling to qualified customers and is available in a 68-TLA (dual-row QFN) 6x6mm package. The ACS422Axx and ACS422Dxx offer analog or digital microphone support respectively, and the ACS422MAxx and ACS422MDxx are the mono speaker amplifier versions. The IDT ACS422Axx and ACS422Dxx are priced at $1.35 each, and the ACS422MAxx and ACS422MDxx are priced at $1.20 each, for volumes of 10,000 units.
