Acer choose Atmel maXTouch touch controller chip for its Android tablet

Atmel Corporation has announced that Acer has selected Atmel's maXTouch chips to handle touch interface controlling in Acer's 10.1 inch Android Tablet PC.

The new Acer ICONIA TAB A500 / A501 tablet with a high-resolution capacitive multitouch display is capable of tracking 10 fingers simultaneously with the support of Atmel's maXTouch capabilites. This tablet with dual-core processor offers HD video playback, 1080p output via an HDMI port, support for Adobe Flash Player, dual cameras, and 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity.

Atmel says its true unlimited touch functionality and faster performance enable advanced features including rejection of unintended touches, multi-touch stretch/pinch and rotate gestures, and handwriting recognition on larger form factor screens, ranging from mobile Internet devices (MIDs) to PC Netbooks and notebooks. The maXTouch solution is based on Atmel's proprietary microcontroller technology, combined with software algorithms for a more robust touch solution.

"We are excited that Acer has selected Atmel's maXTouch technology to power its flagship entry into the hot tablet market," said Binay Bajaj, director of touch marketing, Atmel Corporation. "Acer's choice is a testimony to Atmel's product innovation and continuing leadership of the explosive touchscreen market."
