Kit from IEI to extend the VGA cable as long as 100 meters

IEI Technology Corp. (IEI) released the HD-SDI-BOX kit to transmit HDMI or VGA video signals directly through a 100-meter coaxial cable without compression, providing a high-definition serial digital interface (HD-SDI) for distant signal transmission. The HD-SDI-BOX kit includes the HD-SDI-BOX-M (Master) and the HD-SDI-BOX-S (Slave). The HD-SDI-BOX kit is suggested for connecting video between equipments used in professional studios, broadcasting, surveillance, and intelligent transportation system environments.


More and more television and broadcasting applications require equipment with an SDI or HD-SDI output. SDI (Serial Digital Interface) is an interface used for broadcast-grade video. High-definition serial digital interface (HD-SDI) provides a nominal data rate of 1.485 Gb/s.

The HD-SDI-BOX kit is a flexible system. Its long distance video transmission capability makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. With one HD-SDI-BOX-M (Master) and two HD-SDI-BOX-S (Slave) to a PC and display device, the entire HD-SDI-BOX kit can transfer video information over a distance of up to 200-meters. When connecting an additional HD-SDI-BOX-S (Slave), the video transmission range extends up to 100-meters for HD video quality and 300-meters for SD quality. The HD-SDI-BOX kit also supports a touch-screen remote control linked through the RJ-45 Cat5 cable and RS-232 cable.
