11-Gbps and 6-Gbps optical receivers with on-chip photodiode and TIA

Analog Devices has introduced 11-Gbps and 6-Gbps integrated optical receivers. Analog Devices' ADN3000-06 and ADN3000-11 integrated Germanium photodiode and transimpedance amplifier (TIA) in single package. These devices are designed for fiber optic networks and are fully compatible with normal incidence, standard telecom and datacom ROSAs (receive optical subassemblies). The technology is extensible to multi-channel devices and will allow high-performance optical communications links to migrate to higher-volume applications, such as active optical cable and high-performance computing, says ADI.

The ADN3000-06 and ADN3000-11 optical receivers consume 65 mW of power while running on a single 3.3-V power supply offering typical sensitivity of -19 dBm OMA (optical modulation amplitude) at 6 Gbps and -17dBm OMA at 11 Gbps.

Key features and specifications of ADN3000-06/11 are:

Wavelength agnostic: works across all key optical wavelengths including 850 nm, 1310nm and 1550 nm.
Differential responsivity:
4.6 mV/µW @ 850 nm (ADN3000-06)
5.5 mV/µW @ 1310 nm (ADN3000-06)
3.2 mV/µW @ 1550 nm (ADN3000-06)
Fully characterized interface between the photo detector and the transimepedance amplifier: guarantees stability without worrying about bond wires
Single, fully-tested die solution reduces cost:
No additional components needed inside the ROSA
No separate tests required for the TIA and PD
Detector diameter:
50 µm - ADN3000-06
35 µm - ADN3000-11
Differential output swing:
240 mV p-p - ADN3000-06
270 mV p-p - ADN3000-11
Features on-chip power monitor function
Die size: 0.835 × 0.675 mm

Price table:
Product Sample Availability Pricing Each Per 1000 Data Rate (Gbps) Detector Size (um) Differential Output Swing (mV p-p) Optical Modulation Amplitude (dBm) Power Dissipation (mW)
