Kyocera's children's mobile phone secures kids

Kyocera Corporation has launched new version of its popular mamorino called "mamorino 2", a safe children's mobile phone for the "au" carrier. The new handset features GPS-equipped emergency alert, and is both waterproof and dirt-resistant.
The phone weighs 85 grams with QVGA display. In March 2010, Kyocera launched the original "mamorino" mobile phone targeting children under the age of 8 which had simplified functionality and was equipped with GPS tracking and a feature that only allows the phone to place outgoing calls and texts to limited pre-programmed contacts. Following the concept of the well-received mamorino, Kyocera has used customer feedback to further improve on the usability and features which provide both peace of mind for parents and safety for young children.

The phone is designed with a rounded body and large keys, which are ideal for children with small hands. The handset is now both waterproof and dirt-resistant to endure the realities of children's active lifestyles. The phones pre-programmed contact list has been expanded from 4 to 10 numbers so that more loved-ones can be there to care for the child. The location alert feature, now allows for an automatic time alert setting - letting parents know where their child is at given times of the day. For children, the phone now features new ring tone melodies, and photos sent to the handset can be set as the screen wallpaper. The handset is available in Cosmic Blue and Milky Pink color designs for both boys and girls.

Furthermore, the handset is equipped with an emergency alert feature, activated by pulling the strap, which projects a loud alarm and flashing light for the child's safety and the parent's peace of mind. Also, in the event of an emergency or trouble, a special service allows the emergency alarm to automatically notify Secom Co., Ltd. (home and business security services) thus dispatching emergency response personnel to the child's location.

Parents can receive a history of their child's movement by email or text message. The phone has a special school "off-mode" which fundamentally turns off the phone so it will not disrupt class or distract the child, while still allowing the GPS functions to operate. When the battery power gets low, a message will automatically be sent to the #1 pre-programmed contact.
This phone is presently available only in Japan.
