Sync PWM step-down converter with a max load current of 3 Amps

Exar has unveiled the XRP7665, a new synchronous Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) step-down converter with a maximum load current of 3 Amps and operating input voltage of up to 18V. This device is the latest addition to Exar's PowerBlox family of high-voltage, high-current step-down regulators.

Optimized for a 12V input voltage rail and also capable of operating from the popular 5V rail is suggested for cost sensitive applications such as audio-video equipment such as set-top boxes, telecom, computing peripherals and more generally distributed point-of-load conversions.

"The XRP7665 offers system architects a scalable solution to upgrade to a 3 Amp capable point of load from our popular 2 Amp XRP7664 solution," said Eric Pittana, director of marketing, Power Product Line. "The XRP7665 complements our existing 2 Amp to 12 Amp converters from Exar's PowerBlox family and is part of Exar's continuous effort to provide designers with higher performing and cost effective solutions for DC to DC power conversions."

The Key product features:

Reaching up to 93% efficiency in a compact "green" SOIC package, the XRP7665 operates at a fixed 340 kHz switching frequency
Output voltage can be adjusted down to 0.925V, with 2.7% accuracy, via two external resistors, which can be achieved from any single input voltage from 4.75V to 18V.
Availability of a dedicated enable function and programmable soft start, built-in current limit, output over voltage and thermal shutdown protection.

Package: 8-pin SOIC, RoHS Compliant
Availability: Now
Price: Each $0.39 for 1K piecea
